Hattie's discussion of Alice Walker and her relationship with her daughter Rebecca reminded me of the time Alice Walker held a reading at Kohala Used Books, the now-defunct bookstore renowned for its extensive collection of Hawaiiana.
It's easy to think this island is out of the way. But all kinds of people from around the world visit, pass through, and even come to live here. And Alice Walker is one of them.

We used to get more people like this coming through. We lack venues, and air fares have gone up.
