Strip Tease Belette, "Cruel Piano" and "Your Turn"

I found out about this band when I searched online for music "never released on CD." Among the results was a discussion thread from Steve Hoffman Music Forums titled, "1980s Albums That Have *Never* Been Released on CD?" This post mentioned Strip Tease Belette as a "Cult gothic type band, apparently only released on cassette." This post at AlbumoftheYear.com describes Strip Tease Belette as "a very underground French coldwave band back in the latter half of the 80's" that was around for only two years. The band comprised Hubert Beringer, François Rieg aka Frantz, Nicolas Remi, Olivier Forsans, and Denis Urban.

(Pronounced YOO-peez)

I found this by chance late Tuesday morning.

Released in early 1986, Yuppies had a sequel by the end of the year.

Rock of Ages/Ages of Rock

As I posted yesterday, I'm thinking about historical periods, how they're defined, how one decade or century shades into the next, or how things, historically, can change instantly.

Spin magazine debunks the popular idea that Nirvana, and grunge generally, killed hair metal. It points out that toward the end of the eighties, several hair groups gave up their makeup and teased coifs, stripping down their music and their look to the basics. This was largely thanks to Axl Rose. (He himself had teased hair in the first Guns n'Roses video, then went natural in the next one.)

I found this movie by chance on YouTube last night, and was watching it during Saturday Night Live.

A Belated Acknowledgment of the Thirtieth Anniversary of the Broadcast of The Day After

The Day After first aired nationally on 20 November 1983, on the ABC network. (There was a special screening a few days earlier in West Germany, for an audience of dignitaries.) I was in the second grade and the teacher said we ought to watch it. My mother said no, so I didn't. When I saw it a few years later (1989?) I'm glad I wasn't allowed to watch it as a seven year old.

Light Yogurt and Anachronisms

If he were actually "a busy woman in 1983" he would've more likely had a Tofutti or a Tab, because Yoplait Light had just hit the market around early 1989, as pointed out in this Chicago Tribune article.

The Associates: "13 Feelings"

I found this while browsing on Armond White's Twitter. It's the first time I've heard or heard of The Associates.
