A lot of great writers came out of Wallace Stegner's MFA program at Stanford : Tillie Olsen, Ray Carver, Toby Wolff, Edward Abbey, Ken Kesey and many many more.
No doubt. Implicit in Ames's question is the idea that great writers and journalists never come out of such programs, which I dispute.
